Cycle Tours

A unique feature of Roundhouse History Tours is the opportunity to combine the pursuit of history with a love of cycling. Roundhouse Tours are set in some of the most beautiful countryside in the British Isles and one of the most enjoyable means of engaging with this scenery is at the pace offered by a bike. I have been a serious cyclist for decades, having competed in events such as the Marmotte in the French Alps and having toured extensively on the Continent as well as in Britain. For the past six years I have organised and led a group of cyclists of varying experience over the c2c route between Whitehaven and Sunderland, whilst for years my commute to work gave me a weekly total of 160 miles of cycling. Roundhouse clients have also enjoyed exploring the Yorkshire Dales with Dr Peter Edwards, a Cycling UK qualified Group Leader.

If you too have a love of cycling and history and wish to combine them on a Roundhouse Tour, then I would be delighted to organise a tour for you.

Tours are designed for groups of up to five riders. Current tour locations are the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors. Tours are based at a single high-quality hotel and involve day rides from the hotel for distances of up to 70 miles, depending on the strength and wishes of the group. The duration of the tours is flexible. I will arrange anything from a day trip in Yorkshire through to a programme of rides from a Monday to a Friday. Simply let me know your needs. For those who wish to arrive for the tour by train, I can also arrange transport to and from the nearest mainline railway station. Cycle hire can also be arranged.

The rides are based on largely quiet roads and cycle paths and place an emphasis on breath-taking scenery and spectacular historical sites. Hills, mountains, castles, abbeys, quarries, old mine workings, lime kilns, canals, viaducts, moors and beaches all feature on the rides, as do some of the climbs of the Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire. Alongside a fantastic cycling experience, you will also gain a great insight into the historical and geographical features of the landscape through which you are riding.

Roundhouse cycle tours guarantee a great day on a bike after a hearty breakfast with suitable cafe stops en route, followed by a great evening meal and a comfortable night's sleep.
