School, College and University Tours

Using my extensive experience of organising and leading educational trips, I can plan, book and lead tours in Western, Central and Eastern Europe. I have contacts with a number of hotels and have worked for over a decade with an excellent coach company. I will devise an itinerary around a specific theme, organise transport and accommodation and will also lead the tour if you require this. All tours are accompanied by a study guide written to reflect the most recent scholarship and historical debate and costs also include an introductory lecture for the tour.

Schools and Sixth Form Colleges
Drawing on 25 years of A Level and 12 years of GCSE teaching experience, I am well-placed to arrange curriculum-focused, precisely-themed historical tours for a broad range of student abilities and requirements. Itineraries can be built around existing Roundhouse History Tours destinations or specific sites that a school or college may have in mind. Tours can be devised to accommodate medieval, early modern or modern history and can respond to the demands of an examined syllabus or coursework. An itinerary will be devised to reflect issues that teachers recognise as important in specific areas. Whatever the itinerary, I guarantee that every site visited will be a valuable, thought-provoking and engaging learning experience.

Again, drawing on HE teaching experience, I am able to offer modern history trips to continental Europe based on a range of specific themes. Countries where I can offer a high-quality, academically rigorous and intellectually challenging tour for undergraduates include France, Belgium, Germany, Poland and Russia.

Sample Tour
A seven-day tour (departing Saturday night and returning the following Saturday afternoon) for a group of 40 students and four staff includes pick-up and drop-off at the school, college or university in an air-conditioned coach, two days on the Western Front (the Somme and Verdun), followed by four days in Germany (Mainz and Berlin). The Berlin visit includes the Reichstag, Museum of Resistance, Stasi Museum and Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp as well as all the key sites of central Berlin and some other less-well-known, but important venues. The cost of c.£750 (including VAT) per student includes all travel, hotel accommodation, breakfasts, two evening meals and expert historical guiding at every venue.

The entrance to Sachsenhausen concentration camp
The sublime exterior of Baddesley Clinton, Warwickshire, at the heart of plots against Elizabeth I
The truly gargantuan Soviet War Memorial in Berlin - no photograph from ground level can actually convey the utterly overwhelming scale of the architecture here
